There has been quite a change in the club as Chelsea and manager has given much time for the youths to thrive. It has far been earned by some who got the callup in various Countries. Likes of Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori.
Without much engrossment on the senior lads in the squad ahead of Southampton, Lampard discussed roles they have taken on the pitch and off the pitch in the dressing room.
‘With no doubt there’s a responsibility for the senior players, especially when the young ones comes through, they set the tone and the young players look up to them and we hope they learn in the right way’ he said.
‘On and off the pitch, I’m not naive enough to think I can walk around and be the dictator every time. Its impossible, I rely on my staffs and the senior players and with what I’ve seen so far, I’m so pleased’.
‘All era and all groups are different. You can’t replicate the era of this dressing room 15 years ago to the new one. The modern dressing room has change a lot and that’s how just its gone’.
‘Willian scored two in two, Jorginho’s influence and how he is, N’golo back. I need these players and I hope they carry the burden throughout the season and they’ve been doing so’.
‘One of my most difficult problems in this jobs is, I have good players- and everyone has a story. Christian Pulisic gas a price tag, Barkley is an international player, as is Mount, Callum Hodson-Odoi signed new contract and Bayern wanted him last summer, that’s another international player. Ruben Loftus-Cheek will be coming back, an international player’.
‘Unfortunately, I can’t pick them all. All I have to demand is for them to show me in training or their chance when they play that they’re worthy of this place. Next week you’d be asking me of two other names, that’s the competition we have’.
‘I spoke with Christian two days before the Grimsby game and was very clear about the standard. We have to give him the fact that he just moved into the country, he’s still young like the other young ones who just turned 21, everyone wants him to start and he did about five matches and all he has to do is keep working in training to show he deserves to play more games’.
I’ve good relationship with Olivier Giroud, he’s very professional and trains at a level everyday, very great in the dressing room and passes his experience to the youngsters’.
‘But everyone keeps asking me about the players that isn’t getting more plays, it’s a difficult one. Everyone wants to play. I was one of the worst, I hated not playing. But all I want is positivity and we need a big squad to be a successful big team’.
