In an exclusive interview with Mateo Kovacic, he reflects on his current performance, his partnership with jorginho and how he’s planning for his first Chelsea goal.
The current pace and level performance is how best for Chelsea so far if not the best of his career which started in Dynamo Zagreb at age 16.
Showing statically breadth of performance this past weeks. The ball-carrying, tackles, complete passes and all match ratings. Only N’golo kante has a an average of total interceptions than him in Chelsea. Also no other player in the League has more average successful passes a game than him (73.8).
Ranking second for what’s known as ball-carries in the league, kovacic right now is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
‘My game is to open spaces for the other players, its the strength and feeling I have when I do that as we’re playing a different game to that of last year’s. Kovacic said.
‘My best position is in the midfield two, but doesn’t mean I can’t play in the midfield three only that I feel more comfortable in the midfield two for more freedom.
‘More important is the consistency in your position. I don’t think its good to move around as its a role you’d have to play in another year.
‘A bit problem that occurred in my career happened just so fast, I had three great and bad years in Madrid, I played and didn’t play but I enjoyed it, we won three Champions League but Chelsea for me is coming in my best moment of my career. It was a good switch and I’m pleased with that he added.
He also seems pleased with his influential combo with Jorginho and Mount this season but dearly more with Jorginho. No other pairing in the midfield has found each other the way they’ve done only to help the team get basically into the match tempo.
‘I’ve watched Jorginho since he was at Napoli, when we played against each other but I can say yes very much better than then now’ kovacic said.
‘He’s a great player and not knowing how good he is till I trained alongside him and I can say I’m enjoying it and so does he.
